Nothing adds more personalization and excitement to a room’s décor then those special mementos and accessories that express your individual lifestyle. Often times, knowing where to place your accent pieces is a challenge. Here are a few tips on how to add the finishing touches to your space.
-
Personalized Collectibles
Stories and adventures abound in any collection. They give you something to talk about when family and friends come over. Highlighting your collectibles in a special way gives each item importance. Use an arrangement of floating shelves or tables to place your special items.

Color is Key!
When placing your accessories it’s always important to REPEAT a color at least 3 times around your room. Our eyes crave visual movement when we enter any room in a home and bouncing an accent color – through your accessories – is a GREAT way to add some exciting visual movement!
-
Artwork – Where does it go?
One of the decorating questions I’m most frequently asked is: “How high should I hang my artwork?” And realizing that eye-level is a bit different for everyone, I suggest that artwork should be placed at a comfortable height to be viewed whether sitting or standing. It’s also important to relate your artwork to its surroundings. Typically artwork is placed about 6” to 9” above a sofa to create a more unified look!
-
Let it shine
Nothing adds more sparkle and shine to a room’s décor than decorative lighting. Today’s lamps couldn’t be more versatile in their design – from lamp base to decorative shade. One simple, dramatic and stylish decorative lamp added to a small end table speaks volumes!

Balancing Act
Symmetry brings balance and a feeling of calm to any space. Think of a night stand and lamp on either side of the bed. Or accent chairs flanking a sofa. Take a look around your space to find symmetry.
